刘溢1957年3月生于天津，1982年毕业于中央美术学院油画系。他的油画作品《我讲金苹果的故事－在暴风雨来之前》参加过89中国现代艺术大展。九十年代初开始旅居加拿大， 一直为职业画家，曾在台北市立美术馆和荷兰的当代艺术中心举办过个展，作品为海内外美术馆、艺术机构及私人藏家收藏。2006年他的作品《北京2008》（又名《搓麻将的女人》）曾在国际社会和互联网上受到广泛关注并引发争议。在积极利用现代画材的同时，刘溢娴熟地演绎着纯正的欧洲经典油画技巧。他是中国最多反映国际现代题材的画家，同时他也一再关照民族内容。
Lui Liu was born in March, 1957. He graduated from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in China in 1982. His oil painting “I Tell the Story of Golden Apple Before the Storm” participated China’s First Avant-garde Exhibition in 1989. After that, he began his residence in Canada as a professional artist. He exhibited at galleries throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Lui Liu held solo shows at Taiwan Fine Arts Museum and at Contemporary Art Center of Holland. And his works have been purchased and commissioned by diverse private and corporate collectors in North America and around the world. In 2006, his signature piece“Beijing 2008” depicting multi-racial girls playing mahjong created controversies and discussions in the media and internet world. Lui Liu has been commented for his use of modern materials while maintains a classic European oil painting technique. He has explored extensively cross-cultural subject matters and also never stopped drawing reference from his Chinese heritage.
